Five colleagues from Autism Unlimited’s Portfied School are taking on an unusual challenge. They are generously giving up part of their Easter holidays to go on a road trip with a difference.
Alistair, Cara, Damian, James and Nicky will visit 92 football clubs in 92 hours! That's the top four divisions in English football in less than four days! Why? Because they love football and want to raise as much money and awareness as they can for Autism Unlimited.
Teaching Assistant Alistair said “We all love football. We love watching matches, going to home games, travelling to away games. We chat in the staff room at Portfield School and its usually about football! So when it was suggested we should drive to each football ground in the top four divisions, in 92 hours, we thought 'why not?'
“We want to make this one of the most successful fundraising challenges for Autism Unlimited by raising £92,000 and spreading the word about autism, raising awareness and shining a light on the amazing work the charity does.”
The AU 92 in 92 Team will leave Portfield School, Christchurch on the afternoon of 19 April with their first stop at St Mary’s Stadium, home of Southampton FC. Some 2,400 miles later, on the morning of 23 April, the 92 in 92 Team will be arriving at AFC Bournemouth prior to the scheduled match against Fulham.
Assistant head teacher and Liverpool FC fan Nicky Edwards, said: “It will be great fun. But what matters most is improving awareness about autism and raising money will allow Autism Unlimited to invest in existing and new services for the autistic community.
“We hope that clubs along the route will support the AU 92 in 92 team and we have also set up a Just Giving page, so people and organisations can easily donate and support us.
“Please give what you can today, share our challenge around your networks and talk to your friends. We have a huge target of £92,000 to raise!”
