Portfield School ‘egg-ceed’ expectations (Autism Awareness)

Last week students at Portfield School took part in a week of fundraising activities to mark World Autism Awareness Day, raising over £1,600!

To mark World Autism Awareness Day on 2nd April, Portfield School’s PTA (Parent-Teacher Association), Teachers, and the Autism Unlimited Fundraising team worked together to create a week of exciting activities for students to enjoy. The students raised over £1,600 throughout the week, which is a fantastic achievement, thank you to everyone who played a part.

The celebrations began on Friday 26th March with students donating 50p to enter an Easter colouring competition. Each student was given a blank Easter egg template to design and entries were then shared on our social media channels, ready for our wonderful supporters to choose the winners. An amazing 536 votes were cast in total, congratulations to all of the winners and to everyone who took part, you didn’t make it an easy decision for our judges!

On Monday and Tuesday students put their racing shoes on and took part in our ‘Rabbit Races’. Each class hopped their way around the Portfield School site, complete with bunny ears for good measure! To keep our students in their class bubbles, classes were given a time slot for their race, with prizes awarded to the class who completed the most laps of the site within their slot.

Wednesday saw the school put on an Easter Fayre for the students and staff to enjoy. Items for sale included specially made cakes, biscuits, and all things chocolatey, as well as soft toys, board games, puzzles, and CD’s. An egg-cellent time was had by all who attended, and we are delighted that lots of money was raised on the day.

To finish off a wonderful week at the school, students took part in an egg-citing Easter egg hunt on Thursday. Pupils searched high and low across the school site to find those elusive little eggs, with the help of a mysterious white rabbit who kept appearing in strange places!

Thank you to Scott and the team at ALDI Boscombe store for their donation of 25 Easter eggs, and to one of our supporters Pauline who, with the help of her friends, donated 58 Easter eggs for the adults we support! Thank you also to Marie at Martin & Co Ringwood for donating all of the sweets which were used for the Easter egg hunt at Portfield School.

Friday marked World Autism Awareness Day, when we launched our Amazon Wish List appeal. Following the success of our Christmas wish list, we are asking for your support in giving our children and adults gifts which will help them to develop their unique strengths and cope with the individual challenges they may face living with autism.

It was lovely to see the wonderful Easter egg designs created by the students at the beginning of the week, and how many votes were cast by supporters on social media. The Rabbit Races were a huge success both in terms of the student’s enjoyment and the money raised by family and friends. The PTA were proud to support the day of the easter fayre where the students got to take part in activities including an easter egg hunt, egg painting, and a toy and bake sale to name just a few. On behalf of everyone at Portfield School PTA, we want to say a big thank you to all the parents who donated items and cakes for the fayre, and another big thank you to Libby from Stour Class and Paige from fundraising for inviting the PTA to be part of the fundraising efforts during Autism Awareness week.”

We are so grateful to every person who gave up their time, donated items to be used at our Easter Fayre, or donated money towards our campaign; we couldn’t have done it without you, thank you!
