If I had all the right information upfront and had the opportunity to ask questions. For someone not to dismiss me and my questions because they might be busy. if I do become overwhelmed at any point the option to move to a quiet space so I can process what is happening at my own pace. Asking me what I need at that moment is helpful as I may just need space rather than a fuss.
It is not only health barriers but doctors who lack in compassion and empathy, I haven't seen a doctor in years because every encounter I had a doctor "would not listen".
I had clogged up ears and the sensory overload was immense 3 doctors told me to use oil and the strong ear stuff (which did not work) and this was over 3 months, eventually got an appointment at the shelly clinic but the day before my ear syringe they cancelled on me in a letter...
But to have a healthy living is to be happy by doing what you enjoy as an individual and if you need help going to a gym or want to go during a quiet period then gyms could do like the supermarkets do which is have a quiet hour or a weekly program for people on the spectrum to help them with the key qualification of compassion and empathy.
The majority of health professionals have out of date ridgid ideas about ASD. I was diagnosed at 55. Had a life that was very challenging and did not know why. The majority still think I cannot be autistic because- I made it to 55 I completed university as a mature student, became a social worker, Totally broke down after 5 years. Can't cope with full time work now. Women don't get autism, autistic people have no empathy Autistic people can never look you in the eye ( 55 years of painful masking , never felt right about eye contact and OVER did it)Repeatedly burn out and closed down time and again.
